Ajax Reserves took the three points in Rotterdam by winning against Excelsior by 1-3. The man of the match was Lassina Traoré who scored two times. Excelsior created more chances but Ajax was more effective and therefore took the points.
It only took 8 minutes for Ajax to find the net for the first time. Jurgen Ekkelenkamp was completely overlooked when Noa Lang took the corner kick and it was a simple finish for the midfielder: 0-1. Just before the half-time break, Traoré got a big chance to double the score but he missed in a one on one with the keeper.
Just after the break substitute Ahmad Mendes Moreira was close to the equalizer for Excelsior, but his shot hit the post. On the other side it was Lassina Traoré who again came eye in eye with the goalkeeper and this he managed to find the net: 0-2. In the 61st minute, Sander Fischer from Excelsior received a red card for persistent protests against the referee. Even though Excelsior was down to ten they managed to score the 1-2 after Quinten Timber losing the ball on the midfield. Timber replaced 19-year-old American Alex Mendéz at half-time.
Ajax, however, quickly increased the margin back to two with the second goal from Traoré. The striker from Burkina Faso is now the top scorer of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie with eleven goals. The assist came from American youth international Joshua Pynadath who made his entrance in the 70th minute.
With this win in Rotterdam, the Ajax reserves now have 23 points out of 12 games. This led to a third-place together with NAC Breda and just 3 points behind both De Graafschap and SC Cambuur. The next match is on the 4th of November against FC Volendam.
