Jong Ajax and title contenders SC Cambuur Leeuwarden had an amazing battle on Saturday afternoon. In the end, Ajax took home the three points to Amsterdam even though Cambuur dominated almost the entire match.

Last time out, the reserves of Ajax had an horrible off-day. Almere City completely outplayed them and beat them with 1-4. This time Jong Ajax started out great and had taken the lead within ten minutes. Kenneth dribbled into the penalty area and slotted the ball home nicely. An amazing start for the youngsters. However, not even fifteen minutes later Ajax was already 2-1 down. A good goal by Hoedemakers meant the equalizer and a few minutes later Kjell Scherpen’s horrible build-up play cost Ajax another goal.

The reserves of Ajax weren’t completely outgunned, however. Max de Waal hit the crossbar with a free-kick and Victor Jensen almost scored a bicycle kick.

After half-time Cambuur kept on dominating the game. Ajax was especially sloppy with their defensive build-up play. Scherpen made a few good saves to make sure the game wasn’t decided early and the post also saved Jong Ajax once.

But in the end, it was Jong Ajax who completely flipped the game on its head. Devyne Rensch scored the equaliser with a bit of luck, as his attempt was touched, leaving Stevens without any chance. Not much later Jong Ajax also scored the third, winning goal. Substitute Enric Llansana headed home a corner and made sure Jong Ajax took home the three points!
