On a cold Friday night, Jong Ajax beat the leader of the competition, SC Cambuur with 0-2 on their own turf. Goals were scored by Brian Brobbey and debutant Sontje Hansen.
SC Cambuur started the match way sharper than Ajax and that lead to quite a few big chances for the home team. Thankfully, they didn’t have their sights calibrated correctly yet and managed to squander every single chance.
In the 31st minute, the first chance of Jong Ajax immediately resulted in a goal. Chelsea-loanee Juan Castillio set Brobbey eye in eye with the goalkeeper after a great rush and Brobbey was icecold with his finishing: 0-1. Cambuur started pushing even harder but kept missing their chances. Jurgen Ekkelenkamp also joined the tally of misshits with two big opportunities wasted.
In the second half, Cambuur continued with what they were doing in the first half. It was mostly thanks to the excellent defence of Ajax and goalkeeping abilities of Kjell Scherpen that Ajax kept their lead. After a bit more than an hour, Ünüvar also made his debut in professional football when he replaced Brobbey.
Dream debut
Ten minutes before full-time Sontje Hansen did what a real Ajacied always does, scoring on his debut! The rapid winger turns away beautifully from his direct defender in the penalty area and curls the ball into the far corner: 0-2. A few minutes later he has his second goal on his shoe but wants to give Ünüvar a goal as well, his pass misses accuracy so the chance is wasted.
After these chances Cambuur wasn’t really trying anymore and the match ended in a 0-2 victory for the youngsters of Ajax. This means that Ajax is now approaching that top spot, being only 3 points behind Cambuur. Next week Jong Ajax plays its last game of the year versus TOP Oss at home.
