Lassina Traoré is having a good season so far and is the current top scorer in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. In an interview with Ajax TV he discusses his season and his goal to make more minutes in the first squad.

The striker from Burkina Faso scored 13 times for Jong Ajax this season which makes him the top scorer from the Keuken Kampioen Divisie so far. Traoré hopes he can maintain the lead till the end of the season: “It feels great and I have to keep fighting for this position till the end of the season. I’m ready for the race”.

The 18-year old often trains with the first squad but he plays his games with Jong Ajax which makes it hard to get used to his teammates sometimes. “It’s difficult because you have to adapt to your teammates on matchday but fortunately both the first squad and Jong Ajax play the same kind of football which makes it a bit easier’.

What’s less easy is the competition he has for the striker position. ‘There is Dusan Tadic, the captain, and then you have Klaas-Jan Huntelaar who is a big player as well. I’ll have to wait for the day that I get my chance. One day I will be the first striker of Ajax and there will be another young player who is waiting for his chance like I’m doing now. That’s the way these things go’.

So far Traoré played 28 matches for Jong Ajax in which he scored 21 times and provided 7 assists. The striker played only 5 minutes in the first squad: Last season against Utrecht he played 1 minute and this season another 4 minutes against Feyenoord.
