Last summer, Lasse Schöne made a transfer to Italian side Genoa. In Italy, Genoa is having a tough season, but the Danish midfielder is still happy with his choice to leave Ajax for the Serie A club.

‘I don’t regret my transfer to Genoa at all’, told Schöne to Danish media BT. ‘It was a well-considered choice and I am still behind it. I played my whole career in the Netherlands and last summer I had the opportunity to go to the Serie A. It is a competition I followed for a long time and it is fantastic when you get the chance to show yourself there.’

Last summer Schöne had the choice to stay in Amsterdam and fight for his chances but the possibility to go for an adventure in Italy was too tempting. ‘I could have stayed at Ajax and fight for my position in the ‘New Ajax’ but when Genoa came up, I made my decision quite quickly. It is a great adventure for our whole family and I think we are getting closer to each other with this step.’

One of the last games the Danish midfielder played for Ajax, was the semi-final of the Champions League against Tottenham Hotspur. It’s one of the worst moments of his time at Ajax. ‘It’s clearly one of the matches I look back at with huge disappointment. I think the biggest disappointment in my whole career’, said the Dane. ‘Luckily there are moments to get yourself together again. With the winning of the Dutch Cup and the League title, we did that quite fast after the Spurs-game. It helped a lot to process the Champions League-loss’, ended Schöne.

At the moment, the Danish midfielder is struggling with his club in the Serie A. They are just one place above the relegation zone and their rivals Sampdoria. Schöne played all twelve matches from the start and scored one goal so far.
