Only three days after their victory versus NAC the young guns of Ajax face their next opponent in the second division; Helmond Sport. Without most of the usual guys, who are traveling with the first team to Lille, Ajax shares the points: 1-1.

Jong Ajax played without their strongest players tonight; Gravenberch, Timber, Eiting and Lang were all absent tonight and it showed.

Even though Ajax was the better team in the first part of the game, with promising attacks that just didn’t lead to goals, it was Helmond who took the lead after only 14 minutes. Their rapid striker Werkhoven took full advantage of a backpass by Kemper that was too short.

In the second half, Ajax started playing quite a bit better, mostly due to Taylor who came on at half-time. He played a great match and almost all attacks started with him.

After an hour Ajax was finally able to even the score. A really lucky goal by Ekkelkamp, who got the ball by accident and scored, was the beginning of an offensive to win the game. Kühn was very close on two occasions, one time the goalie could make a save and the other time he hit the post, but eventually, they weren’t able to keep all 3 points in Amsterdam.

Despite the draw, Jong Ajax is still on the third place in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie with 30 points after 16 matches. SC Cambuur is on top of the table with 36 points and De Graafschap is second with 33 points. Next week Jong Ajax faces Telstar in IJmuiden.
