Ajax-defender Perr Schuurs hopes he will play in the Champions League match against Lille OSC. Due to the red cards from Joël Veltman and Daley Blind in the game against Chelsea, the youngster is a serious option to play from the start in France.

After the game between the Netherlands U21 and England U21, the 19-year-old spoke with Fox Sports about the match and the coming week with Ajax. ‘These kind of matches are good moments to test yourself. They played with high pressure but I think we coped with that well. I think I can say that I’ve played a good game today.’ Schuurs continues: ‘I’m happy that I have been able to make a lot of minutes this week. This is good for me since it keeps me in shape and prepared for the coming week with Ajax. Hopefully, I can play next week against Lille.’

Perr Schuurs joined Ajax in the summer of 2018. Since coming to Amsterdam he played 30 matches for Jong Ajax and 12 in the first squad. This season he started as a central defender in the first two official matches but when all players returned from their holidays he lost his place in the starting eleven to Joël Veltman. With the suspension of Veltman and Blind in the Champions League, Schuurs is a logical option to play against Lille OSC next Wednesday.
