Patrick Kluivert would love to see that Barcelona would loan players to Ajax in the future. Since last summer, Patrick Kluivert is Barcelona’s director of youth football and in an interview with Spanish site Sport he tells about the possibilities of loaning out players to Ajax.
The former Ajax- and FC Barcelona striker considers Ajax as ‘the perfect team’ when he got asked about loaning out Riqui Puig and Carles Aleñá: “They would be the perfect team. I’m keen to loan players to Ajax. We also have an agreement with FC Utrecht. For the players that don’t progress directly to the first team, it would be perfect for them to continue their development as players’. Kluivert continues: ‘The development at Ajax and Barcelona is very similar. I know the Ajax academy well. There are some different things but the main things are very similar.’
In the past, Ajax had two players of Barcelona on loan. In the season 2012/2013, Isaac Cuenca was on loan for 5 months but it wasn’t that much of a success. The winger only played five official games due to injuries. In these five matches, he didn’t manage to score and only gave 1 assist. In the season 2013/2014, it was Bojan Krkic who joined Ajax on a one-year loan deal, with an option for a second-year loan spell from Barcelona. He played 32 official games for Ajax in which he scored 5 goals. Even though he played a reasonable amount of games Ajax decided to release him after one year.
