The press conference ahead of the RKC game on Sunday was mostly about an upcoming transfer of Sergiño Dest. Ten Hag thinks it’s a compliment that Dest is wanted by a European top club but he hopes that Dest stays at Ajax. If he does leave, however, a new signing will be required.
As we reported yesterday, Bayern already made an initial offer of €15 million, which Ajax has turned down. Ten Hag didn’t have any news regarding the negotiations during the press conference: ‘He’s still a player of Ajax and he trained with us, I don’t have any other news’. The manager also made clear that Dest will be a part of the squad on Sunday, when Ajax faces RKC at home.
If a transfer does happen ten Hag would like to sign a new right-back: ‘If it happens, what I’d rather not see, the position won’t have much depth. If it happens we’ll have to look for a replacement’. That ten Hag doesn’t want to see Dest leave is quite clear: ‘Every time have to start over. Other clubs can keep their whole squad together, we have to fit in players every season.’
Like ten Hag said, Dest is still an Ajax player and he might get a place in the starting eleven on Sunday because Tagliafico is suspended for one match after his red card versus Sparta. The other option on the left-back position is Lisandro Martínez, who is totally fit again according to the manager.
