Ajax and Ryan Gravenberch have reached an agreement on a new 3-year-long contract. The midfielder will be signed to the club until 30 June 2023.
Ryan Gravenberch, an 18-year-old midfielder, is considered one of Ajax biggest upcoming talents. He’s already made 12 appearances in the first team and has great potential. A few weeks ago, All About Ajax named analysed him in the list of biggest upcoming talents. His contract only had 12 months remaining and negotiations proved to be difficult. He and his agent, the infamous Mino Raiola, weren’t opposed to signing an extension but only if Ajax had a clear development plan for him.
In the meantime, other clubs showed interest as well. Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona were some of the clubs supposedly keeping an eye on him.
Gravenberch was born in Amsterdam and has spent the last 10 years in the youth academy of the club, a real Ajacied. After his extension, Gravenberch said: ‘I’ve been asked about the extension a lot the last months, but to the people close to me I’ve always indicated that I wanted to stay at Ajax. I came here in 2010. They picked me up as a little boy when I was 8 years old. I’ve been here for 10 seasons. Then you don’t want to leave just like that.’
