It’s been official for a little while now, Ziyech will leave Ajax for Chelsea in the summer. He gave his first interview since the news broke with the official Ajax channels. He speaks about his choice and the last months in the Netherlands.
‘I’m sitting here feeling proud. It’s finally my chance.’ Ziyech states about his transfer to London-based club Chelsea. ‘It’s a club with a rich history. Under the new manager (Lampard red.) they play attacking football with a lot of young talents. That attacking mindset was important to me.’ The first contact with his new manager was positive: ‘We’ve spoken quite a bit on the phone the last few weeks, about the playstyle, his approach, the club and about me. He’s also a midfielder so I can learn a lot from him.’
The Premier League is an absolute dream for Hakim: ‘It’s a top team in the strongest league in the world.’ Ziyech was also impressed with the atmosphere in Chelsea’s stadium, Stamford Bridge: ‘They were still supporting their side when we were 4-1 up, the support is great there. It was different then because I was there as the opponent but I’m looking forward to it.’
Ziyech is looking forward to his move to Chelsea but still has some unfinished business to attend to in the Netherlands: ‘I’m not thinking about these last months as my farewell tour. I’m here to win prizes before I leave, sot that’s what’s on my mind. You can expect more magic from me these last few months, guaranteed.’
