Marc Overmars has stated in an interview with Ajax TV that he won’t rule out the possibility of Onana still playing for Ajax next season. The goalie is assured of a lot of interest from big clubs all around Europe, but the Ajax Director of Football lets them know that he can’t be picked up for next to nothing.
The current situation around the world, in regards to the Coranacrisis, means that clubs have less money to spend on transfers. Overmars is willing to let Onana go, but only for the right price: ‘We will not let players go for next to nothing. We know that clubs are waiting for developments, but we can’t wait until the 30th of August, either. There will be a limit and then we’ll say: now we can’t let you go anymore’.
If the right price is offered Onana will be allowed to leave: ‘He meets our standards: he’s won awards, he’s gotten better and he’s ready for the next step’, Overmars explains. Ajax is keeping players updated on transfer news. ‘Everything happens in coordination with the player, most of them also understand we can’t let them go for pennies on the dollar’.
