On Saturday evening Ajax finally won a game again. A 1 – 3 victory pleased the manager Erik ten Hag. He gave an interview to FOX Sports after the match.

‘I saw a good attitude from the team today. I also saw good intent today and a team that wanted to fight for each other. A team that wanted to win. They fought for it and forced the result. Heerenveen was indeed dangerous in the counter a few times, but that’s inherent to our playing style. The players weren’t in the correct positions at that moment, but we had enough speed to cope with that. And then we still have Onana of course’ ten Hag stated after the won match versus Heerenveen. A very positive head coach this time!

Ten Hag made one remarkable change in his starting eleven. An official debut for Jurriën Timber. The 18-year-old central defender started next to Daley Blind. Ten Hag was very happy with his performance: ‘I think he did an amazing job. Naturally, there were some small mistakes, his positioning wasn’t always the best, but overall I was very content with his performance. I chose Timber for two reasons: Heerenveen has a lot of speed in the front and Jurriën is fast. He is also very pro-active in ball possession.’

Just before halftime Dusan Tadić and Sergiño Dest got into a very heated argument on the pitch. The captain was extremely agitated that the right-back wasn’t making himself available for a pass and told him, or better said shouted that in his face. Ten Hag didn’t notice this fight but also isn’t worried about it: ‘As a young player you have to listen, especially to your captain. Dest did pretty well today, bar that one moment.’
