Siem de Jong will be making a transfer to FC Cincinnati in the Major League Soccer. The 31-year-old midfielder will fly to the USA this week to undergo his medicals, de Telegraaf reports.
The US club has a major Dutch influence in the name of Gerard Nijkamp as CEO and Ron Jans as head coach. The club sees de Jong as a good strengthening of the squad.
At Ajax Siem de Jong couldn’t really count on much play-time. When he did play he often looked too slow and not good enough in general. The 6-time Dutch international might have a better time in the MLS.
In total, Siem de Jong played 277 matches for Ajax in which he scored 88 times and assisted 52 goals. He scored in every championship match he played and lead Ajax to their 30th (and 31st, 32nd, 33rd) Eredivisie title.
Siem de Jong had an expiring contract at Ajax.
