The Telegraaf reports that Ajax is looking to sign a second Brazilian player for the coming summer. The plan is to sign Santos-midfielder Giovanni (18) in the coming days.
Giovanni is already in the Netherlands to work out a transfer, according to de Telegraaf. There would still be some obstacles to overcome, though. There’s still a lot of paperwork that needs to be signed and he hasn’t had his medical tests, yet. Also, the communication with his club Santos is proving difficult.
Giovanni is a talented attacking midfielder. According to Paulo Freitas, a well-informed reporter and the head researcher of Brazil for Football Manager Giovanni has quite some potential: “He has a good technique and an amazing pass. He has to work on his finishing and most importantly his physicals. He has to get stronger but with enough play-time and some patience he could develop into a really good player.”

The chairman of Santos, José Carlos Peres, voiced his displeasure about Ajax’ transfer policy earlier. The players at Santos play on a youth contract until they turn 18, at that point they can either sign a contract at Santos or move to a different club, on a free transfer. Ajax earlier used the tactic of waiting until a player turned 18 and immediately signing him before, for Danilo Pereira. He also came over from Santos and the Brazilian club went to the CAS to file a complaint.
