Dutch newspaper “Algemeen Dagblad” expects Edson Álvarez back in the starting eleven for tonight’s game against Chelsea in the Johan Cruijff Arena.
The Mexican international had to watch the last few Eredivisie games from the sideline but is expected to return on one of the midfield positions. He will start next to Lisandro Martinez. Donny van de Beek will have a more offensive position and will play before the two Latino’s.
Nicolas Tagliafico will also return into the starting eleven after being suspended against RKC Waalwijk. Sergino Dest will play as the right-back and the central defenders will be Blind and Veltman. Blind and Veltman proved to be a quality couple in the Champions League so far since they haven’t conceived a goal yet.
Dusan Tadic, Hakim Ziyech and Quincy Promes are expected to start in attack which means Brazilian winger David Neres will start on the bench.
Chelsea:
Fikayo Tomori and Marcos Alonso’s strong form means they are likely to earn a place in the starting lineup for the game against Ajax, while Kepa Arrizabalaga and Cesar Azpilicueta are Lampard’s trusted first-choice options at goalkeeper and right-back respectively. Kurt Zouma will most likely be playing as center-back.
With injuries to Ross Barkley, N’Golo Kanté and Ruben Loftus-Cheek Chelsea don’t have too many options for the midfield positions. Jorginho, Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic seem like the most likely midfield trio.
Callum Hudson-Odoi has no doubt played himself into a starting role with his impressive showing against Newcastle. Meanwhile, Tammy Abraham will likely to continue his starting berth since his good form this season. On the right-wing, we’ll probably see Willian play to offer some experience and trickery.
Predicted Ajax XI:
Onana; Dest, Veltman, Blind, Tagliafico; Alvarez, Martinez; Ziyech, Van de Beek, Promes; Tadic.
Predicted Chelsea XI:
Arrizabalaga; Azpilicueta, Zouma, Tomori, Alonso; Jorginho, Kovacic, Mount; illian, Hudson-Odoi, Abraham.
