The COVID-19 measures in the Netherlands are a big hit on almost every company, Ajax included. In an interview with AjaxTV, he spoke about the potential losses the club faces every match.

Normally, Ajax welcomes about 55.000 fans in the Johan Cruijff ArenA every match. ‘We have 41.0000 seasonticket-holders and we sell 14.000 single tickets per match. We can’t sell any of those single tickets, which means a loss of around half a million [Euros]. Only one third of the seasonticket-holders can go to the matches, so the total of lost revenue can be up to 1.5 million Euros per match,’ CEO Edwin van der Sar explains.

A lot of outsiders have pointed to the sales of Ziyech and van de Beek as reasons why Ajax won’t get into financial problems, but that doesn’t solve the situation according to van der Sar: ‘We already budgeted those transfers. We have European ambitions and we want to join the top. Losing 1.5 million per game would hurt any club’.
