SC Heerenveen is doing everything they can to get Klaas-Jan Huntelaar back to his former club, according to VI-journalist Marco Timmer. The 36-year-old striker has a contract that expires this summer.
Timmer says that Huntelaar wants to play professionally at least for one more season: ‘I feel like he still wants to go on. I imagine he doesn’t want to say goodbye to a wonderful career like this’. The big question is, where will he play next season? Ajax is still an option, but they have a lot of attacking options: ‘Traoré, Brobbey, Danilo. I think David Neres will stay and next season Antony will come over from Brazil so ten Hag will have even more possibilities,’ Timmer said.
So other clubs. Maybe one of his former clubs? De Graafschap and Heerenveen seem the most logical: I’m thinking of an offensive-minded club. Of course, he’s from the Achterhoek (region of de Graafschap) and De Graafschap will be mentioned, but suppose they still play in the Eredivisie, then De Graafschap will play from their own half. Huntelaar, who always has to cross fifty metres, wouldn’t be much use to you then’.
‘Heerenveen is doing everything they can to sign Huntelaar, I can see him playing there for another season. He had a wonderful time there,’ Timmer finishes.
