Ajax had a rough Friday evening with the away game against PEC Zwolle. The Amsterdammers sealed the win by 2-4 but lost three players with injuries. Midfielders Donny van de Beek, Lisandro Martinez and Edson Alvarez were all substituted by Ajax-manager Erik ten Hag for various physical reasons but according to de Telegraaf, it seems like they will all make tomorrow’s game against Chelsea for the Champions League.
Donny van de Beek was substituted against PEC Zwolle because of minor hamstring issues. The day after the game van de Beek paid a visit to the physiotherapist and it seems like the treatment helps since the medical team of Ajax expects the blonde midfielder to be fit for the match against Chelsea.
Lisandro Martinez was injured after a nasty foul from Gustavo Hamer. Fortunately, it has only caused swelling and not an internal injury. Therefore Martinez is expected to be fit for tomorrow’s match. Edson Alvarez lost a part of one teeth and was dizzy for a while after he was elbowed in the face by PEC Zwolle player Mustafa Saymak. He seems to be recovering fast enough to join Ajax for the trip to London. The medical team of Ajax says that they are positive about both Martinez and Alvarez’s chances to play tomorrow.
Tomorrow Ajax will face Chelsea on Stamford Bridge for the 4th game of the Champions League group stage. Both Chelsea and Ajax have 6 points after three games being followed by Valencia with 4 points and Lille with only 1 point.
Update: Ajax confirmed that all three players will travel to London which means they are fit enough to play against Chelsea.
