Gregg Berhalter, coach of the national team of the United States of America is very happy about Sergino Dest’s decision to play for the USA national team for the rest of this international career. On Monday, the Ajax-defender announced that he decides to play for the USA national instead of the Dutch team.
“He is an exceptional young player with a bright future waiting for him. Our national youth teams gave him a chance to show his qualities on an international level. We’re happy that he keeps playing for our national team” said Gregg Berhalter, who is coaching the USMNT for almost a year now.
Dest was born in Almere and grew up in the Netherlands. He has a Dutch mother and an American father and therefore had the option to choose between the Netherlands and the United States of America. The defender played for the under 17 and under 20 national teams from the USA and also made his debut for the first team against Mexico at the beginning of September. 18-year old Dest made his debut for Ajax this summer and since then he played 16 matches for the first team including 6 Champions League matches.
