The UEFA has postponed the end date of all national competitions in Europe. Previously this date was the 30th of June but it’s now the 3rd of August. KNVB plans on restarting the Eredivisie mid-June.
The UEFA is very adamant that every competition has to be played until completion. The new date they’ve set is 3 August, before this date all remaining matches have to be played.
The KNVB, the Dutch FA, announced that they plan on resuming the Eredivisie mid-June. No matches are allowed to be played in the Netherlands until at least 28th of April and the KNVB wants to give all teams a few weeks to train and get back into their rhythms. The KNVB does, however, clarify that nothing is a 100% set in stone yet: ‘For us, the importance of national health remains the starting point, including that of our footballers, trainers, supporters and referees. In any case, we will not play football until it is safe according to the RIVM. Health comes first, always and especially now.’ they write in a statement on their site.
The scenario of stopping the competition entirely is still being investigated. At the moment, all consequences, for example, the financial impact, are mapped out. In addition, a plan is being considered to help the professional football clubs with this immense problem, should the current competition be cancelled.
It’s still not clear what will happen with ending contracts and pending transfers come July 1st. UEFA will return to these issues, including in a general meeting scheduled for mid-April.
