In an interview with Brazilian medium Globo Esporte, David Neres has said that he’ll help new Ajax signing Antony with whatever he needs in the Netherlands.
David Neres and Antony have a lot in common. Both are Brazilian, both are left-footed wingers, both started their careers at São Paulo and both joined Ajax. In the interview with Globo Esporte Neres also pointed that out:
‘He (Antony, ed.) follows the same path as me and shows how good the academy is in São Paulo. Football players are ready for professionalism and São Paulo is good for their development. I wish Antony good luck and I will help him with everything he needs here in the Netherlands.’ Does that mean Neres will stay at least another year at Ajax? Neres still has a contract until 2023 at Ajax but many people believe he might make a big transfer this coming summer.
Neres is excited about Antony: ‘Whenever I can I watch São Paolo games and I cheer for them. Antony is a very promising player, he has a lot of qualities and that is why Ajax has signed him.’
Ajax signed Antony for a fee of € 16 million, plus € 6 million in potential bonuses. He has signed a 5-year-long contract at Ajax and he’ll make the move from Brazil to Ajax in the summer of 2020.
