Just ten days after announcing his decision to join the national team of the United States, Sergiño Dest has received the invitation he had been hoping for. Coach Gregg Berhalter has reserved a spot in his team for Ajax’ young fullback for the upcoming matches against Canada (November 15th), and Cuba (November 20th) in the Nations League. Dest is expected to play in at least one of those fixtures, which would mean there would be no way back for him to the Dutch Oranje. The youngster, who has a double passport, has previously represented America in friendly matches only, but has also been a part of multiple youth teams of the United States.
Meanwhile, two of the three Moroccans on Ajax’ payroll have been called upon by the Moroccan Football Association to play in the upcoming matches against Mauritania and Burundi. Hakim Ziyech and Noussair Mazraoui, who were both forced to miss out on the last international break due to injury, will be trying their hardest to qualify for the Africa Cup with the ‘Lions of the Atlas’. The name of Zakaria Labyad does not feature on the list of coach Vahid Halilhodžić, so he will remain in Amsterdam.
