During the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM) Edwin van der Sar has signed a contract extension for four more years as CEO of the club. His new contract is until the 17th of November 2023.
Van der Sar (49) has been a member of the Ajax management team since November 2012. He started as Marketing Director. In November 2016, the former goalkeeper was appointed CEO and, as such, also Chairman of the Management Team. We’ve written a piece on how van der Sar has changed from goalkeeper into a figurehead of Ajax.
Edwin van der Sar: ‘Actually, I wasn’t even aware that my contract was coming to an end. And I don’t feel like I’m finished with Ajax at all. Our common goal is to structurally join the European top with Ajax. This includes a healthy management, focused on national and international growth and based on the values that belong to Ajax. That is ambitious and I like that. Together with the rest of the management team, I would like to continue to achieve this together. We’re well on the way, but we’re not there yet.’
