Coming Sunday Ajax will play against FC Utrecht and the match between the two rivals will be played for Ajax-fans only. In an official statement by the SV FC Utrecht, the fans of FC Utrecht said that they will boycott the game on Sunday.
Last season, when Ajax and FC Utrecht faced each other in Amsterdam, there were about 630 fans from Utrecht in The Johan Cruijff Arena. This year, they sold around 500 tickets to FC Utrecht supporters, but with an agreement that this number could be increased by another 100 to 150 tickets. But now, the municipality of Amsterdam has decided that they no longer will make these extra tickets available because of the lack of police capacity. This choice has led to consternation by the fans of FC Utrecht, who called the decision: ‘Unimaginable and unacceptable’. “The municipality of Amsterdam appeared to be an unreliable discussion partner”, it was said in the statement.
The supporter groups of FC Utrecht speak of unnecessary high tensions and a disturbed relationship with the municipality of Amsterdam. “There is no valid reason to refuse the extra tickets for our fans, besides the freedom of movement of the police in our section in the stadium. We can’t escape the impression that the municipality is out to perform an act on the first the best futility”, reads the statement, that also cites the disorder of the strong police force that ended the Estrada before the Ajax-Juventus game to describes their feelings.
Both the club Ajax and support group Ajax was willing to accept more fans of Utrecht. The anger and incomprehension from FC Utrecht-fans is therefore not to Ajax, but only to the municipality of Amsterdam.
