Tuesday night, Chelsea and Ajax played an unbelievable match on Stamford Bridge which ended in 4-4 but after the final whistle, everyone is talking about the referee and VAR who played a major role. Referee Gianluca Rocchi gave two red cards to Daley Blind and Joel Veltman and a penalty within 60 seconds. At that moment Ajax led the game by 2-4 and was feeling like they were in control.

After the game, Ajax-captain Dusan Tadic was furious about the choices that referee Rocchi made. “The only thing we can do now is being mad and angry. There is someone who completely ruined our game this evening”, said Tadic to Dutch television-channel Veronica.

I have never seen anything like this before. I haven’t had time to look at the actions that lead to the red cards, but I think it’s impossible to get two red cards in such a short time”, told the Serbian captain. “The game completely changed when we were down to nine-man. Until that moment, we controlled the match, played better and we should have won the match. But with nine players on the pitch, it is impossible to perform that well.”

Short after the equalizer, the nightmare for Ajax seemed complete. Cesar Azpilicueta thought he made the 5-4, but Tammy Abraham made a handball and the VAR-decision was ‘no goal’. With hard work, Ajax stood their grounds and the game ended in 4-4.

With this result and Valencia winning at home with 4-1 against Lille, there are three teams sharing the first place in Group H with 7 points. Lille comes in last with only 1 point.
