It took some time, but the Netherlands under 17 team is getting in shape at the right moment at the U-17 World Cup in Brazil. They lost the first two games against Japan and Senegal, but after the 4-0 win against the USA, the Dutch youngsters stayed in the right flow and now they are in the semi-finals.
Last Sunday, the under 17 team played in the quarter-finals and won with 4-1 against Paraguay. The team has a lot of Ajax youth players. With Calvin Raatsie, Youri Regeer, Devyne Rensch, Anass Salah-Eddine, Kenneth Taylor, Sontje Hansen, and Naci Ünüvar, there were seven Ajax-players in the lineup. Ünüvar, one of the most promising talents is proud of the team so far.
“Our strength is that we are all equal. You can see that when we score a goal. We celebrate each goal with the whole team and everyone is happy for each other”, said ÜnÜvar to Dutch news channel NOS. Ajax-teammate Hansen is topscorer with six goals, but against Paraguay Hansen delivered the assist to Ünüvar’s first goal. “If it thanked him? I thanked him three times on the pitch and after the match another few times. Again, that’s the strength of our team”, told a satisfied Ünüvar.
In the semi-finals, they are up against Mexico. “It really is beautiful. We are playing a world cup and we are in the semifinals with Mexico, France, and Brazil. That is great.” The semifinals are on Thursday and the final is coming Sunday.
