Tonight is the first big test for this Ajax squad. The boys face, arguably, the best team in the world: Liverpool. Antony & J. Timber aren’t able to play, but who will line up versus the champions of England? All About Ajax with a prediction.

During the press conference prior to tonight’s match, ten Hag dropped a bombshell: Antony is not fit enough to play. Corona? The manager didn’t want to specify why the Brazilian wasn’t able to play versus Liverpool. Jurriën Timber also isn’t able to play, also “not fit”.

The backline will most likely be the usual four. Mazraoui on the right, a centre-back duo of Schuurs and Blind, with Tagliafico defending the left flank.

The midfield is a bit more of a question mark. Will ten Hag utilise the same midfield trio of Kudus, Gravenberch and Klaassen, that won versus Heerenveen with 5-1 again, or go for a more defensive route? If the latter is the case we might see Álvarez back on the midfield.

Since Antony can’t play the positions upfront will have to be shuffled a bit, as well. We expect Tadic to go back to his favourite position, as a striker. Quincy Promes and David Neres will give him attacking support over the wings, most likely Neres from the left and Promes from the right – but those can switch in an instant.

Expected XI Ajax: Onana, Mazraoui, Schuurs, Blind, Tagliafico, Klaassen, Gravenberch, Kudus, Neres, Tadic, Promes.
