According to de Telegraaf Ajax won’t make a move for Jan Vertonghen this winter. The ex-Ajacied now playing for Tottenham is deemed too expensive.

Jan Vertonghen was willing to come back to Ajax but the finances didn’t work out. The defender makes four to five million euro per year at Spurs and Ajax isn’t willing to pay that, or a big part of that.

If Ajax wanted to get him this winter they would have to pay a transfer sum as well, since his contract only ends this summer. Tottenham wants at least 12 million for him, the same amount they paid Ajax for him in 2012. Ajax doesn’t think this is a reasonable deal since Vertonghen’s age means he has no rest-value. Multiple clubs are interested in the services of the Belgium international so striking a lower deal seems out of the question.

Ajax will now have to either look for a different defender or give Perr Schuurs the fulll confidence and use him as a starting player.
